You can't see it but the top of Elden is normally visible from this angle:
And this one (we met at the Safeway parking lot to carpool to either the top or the start of the hike (not the trail head, there's no trail for the Scramble)):
There were enough patches of blue sky to fool us into thinking the day might get better.
Thankfully, I was not assigned to drive. The road was not in good shape.
We entered the cloud about halfway up.
The winners! They made it up in 39 minutes (I'm not sure of the exact distance but they went from ~7000 feet elevation to 9300).
Justin took a bit longer and came in 6th.
Normally, the celebration at the top is more fun and last longer but everyone was very cold and very wet so most people started back down pretty quickly (or hid out in one of the support vehicles).
