Master Bedroom Floor

The master bedroom (and stairs) was the only room with carpet when I moved in. Since the house had been a rental property for a while (and they'd gone with white), the carpet was not nice (the picture below is from the listing so doesn't show the not so nice parts):

It would have been nice if there would be something worth restoring under the carpet but I wasn't hopeful considering this was most likely unfinished attic space until relatively recently. So I wasn't too disappointed to find this:

I had better luck with the stairs (which will get their own post once I take pictures).

This is about half of the carpet from the main room (not including closets). I spent a fun afternoon pulling it up and cutting it into reasonably sized pieces while mom pulled up carpet tack strips (she finished up the entire room in a couple of days. I'm very grateful and impressed) and Carol searched for staples (she did an amazing job on the stairs).

I wasn't sure how I was going to get rid of my giant tower of carpet until someone suggested I talk to my roofers about using their dumpster. They had no problem with it as long as I waited until they were mostly done so we didn't put too much in. I prepped by throwing the carpet (and pad) out of my upstairs bathroom window onto the driveway. The pile got in the way of roofing on the second day so the guys ended up putting it into the dumpster for me (this became extra fantastic when it rained that night. I'm not sure I could have moved that much wet carpet).

This is what the bedroom looks like with no carpet or tack strips. Also, I painted the easy parts of the walls (no edging yet):

I spent this past sunday getting the tack strips and staples out of the closets (I have a lot of closet space) so everything would be ready for the team coming in monday to put down a sub-floor.

Everything that had been in the closets or elsewhere in the room had to be moved for the workers. Most ended up in the bathroom.

The floor guys were expecting to be working through wednesday but things were a bit easier than expected and should finish up today. I'm planning on putting in laminate or vinyl planks sometime next year. With some rugs, I can live with this for a while.
